Frequently Asked Questions

Do all hand conditions require surgery?

No. Many conditions can initially be managed with splints, activity modification, injections or hand therapy. Surgery is recommended only when appropriate.


Is carpal tunnel surgery performed as day surgery?

Yes. Most carpal tunnel release procedures are performed as day surgery, allowing patients to return home the same day.


Will I need Occupational therapy afterwards?

Some patients benefit from hand therapy following surgery, depending on the procedure performed.


Do I need a GP referral?

A GP referral is usually required for Medicare rebates and specialist consultation.
